I know that it’s been a while since I’ve posted to the blog and for that I do apologize. Life gets in the way sometimes and unfortunately there’s nothing I—or anyone else for that matter—can do about it. What I can say though is I’m back with a vengeance. I have a lot of cool plans for this blog spanning all across my interests: movies, comics, gaming, and technology. This post is going to be a start to the technology side.

If you’re my friend over on Facebook or if you follow me on Twitter or Instagram you know by now that I picked up a MacBook Pro on Thursday. More importantly, you probably know, or don’t know, that this is my FIRST Apple computer. Finnish Startup HeiaHeia Raises €1.5M To Expand Its Corporate Wellness Platform

TechCrunch

HeiaHeia , a Finnish startup offering a social and corporate wellness platform that helps employees live a healthier lifestyle — and, presumably, perform better at work — has raised €1.5 million in funding led by Finland’s Wallstreet Financial Services. In addition, unnamed private investors participated, along with Tekes, the Finnish taxpayer-funded agency for innovation. This represents the first external investment for the otherwise bootstrapped and profitable company.

Originally launched as a consumer-facing « personal fitness motivator », HeiaHeia’s platform has since found success with a B2B offering, tapping into the « corporate wellness » phenomenon whereby companies run programs to get their workforce exercising and making lifestyle changes. The idea is to help improve their health physically and mentally, as well as softer outcomes like boosting team morale. More push ups, less sick days.

Specifically, HeiaHeia’s platform and mobile apps are designed to help motivate users to exercise more by making it easy…

Oilers GM says he’s optimistic about future

Global News

EDMONTON – Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish feels optimistic about his team’s future despite a last-place finish in the Western Conference standings.

MacTavish gave his head coach a vote of confidence Tuesday and said while it’s hard to determine where the team is in its development stage, he feels most of the « heavy lifting » has been done.

« We’re closer to the end in my mind than we are to the beginning in terms of the development of this team, » MacTavish said Tuesday at a season-ending media availability.

Expectations were higher in Edmonton this season but the team struggled from the start and finished with a 29-44-9 record for 67 points, good for a 28th-place finish in the 30-team league.

There were a few bright lights for the Oilers. Taylor Hall had a strong year with 80 points in 75 games and fellow forwards Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had productive…
