In an effort to address effective automation as well as self-provisioning, Cisco has launched a new service for its ESP or Evolved Service Platform that includes cloud-based DVR for SP video and a virtual version of the the packet core for 4G, which is still the primary obstruction to Service Provider innovations in the digital age. According to UBS analyst Amitabh Passi, Cisco’s ESP is a product platform that ties the underlying IT base to applications in a profoundly automated manner. Cisco has originally partnered with Broadsoft, Intel, Metaswitch and Openware in these efforts, however, Cisco still seeks to acquire some of the initial players that will help raise their revenue in the coming years. It is said to be part of Cisco’s key strategic investment plan.
